A Famous Proverb

He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool, shun him.

He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a child, teach him.

He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep, wake him.

And he who knows and knows that he knows is wise, follow him.

(I will add one extra line...
He who knows, but keeps it to himself is a genius, ask him.)

Protecting Antarctica from Tourism

Global warming has given rise to a new niche in tourism: ‘climate tourists’. As icecaps are melting and coral reefs are vanishing, people are rushing to see the natural wonders of the world in increasing numbers -- afraid to miss out on the disappearing beauty of towering glaciers, rugged snow-covered mountains and icebergs. The newfound eco-consciousness has caused a surge in eco-tourism, particularly to the Antarctic. Ecologists are concerned about growing visitor numbers and the impact on the environment. But contrary to popular belief, local researchers are not opposed to tourism.

Upper-Intermediate News: Are You a Shopaholic?

The lives of some people are focused on shopping. They repeatedly make purchases regardless of need or cost. Some of these people buy things on impulse. Some of these people have closets with unopened purchases. Some of these people have accumulated huge amounts of credit card debt. If this sounds like you, then you may be a shopaholic.

That's the Ticket! Crowd cheers as Veyron gets parking fine
Posted Jan 28th 2008 11:21AM by Noah Joseph
Filed under: Government/Legal, Supercars, Bugatti, UK

In some countries, folks cheer at the sight of an exotic supercar, while in others they assume the driver is a (expletive deleted). In which camp would you think England falls? We'd have hoped the former, but the crowd has spoken, and they're saying otherwise. When an evidently obscenely wealthy driver parked his Bugatti Veyron in a loading bay in downtown Manchester, a traffic warden wrote him a ticket while a gathering crowd stood by and cheered her on.
The same car was reported to have gotten another ticket in the posh Cheshire neighborhood of Alderley Edge, as well. The £60 ticket this time, which can be reduced to £30 if paid promptly, will probably not make or break the driver of the seven-figure hyper-exotic, but he should really be more careful about where he leaves his Veyron lying around.

El Toblerone cumple 100 años · ELPAÍS.com

EFE - Ginebra - 18/01/2008

First Look at the NEW MacBook Air

First Look at the MacBook Air
Tuesday January 15, 2008 03:08 PM EST

After the keynote, we rushed over to the MacBook Air. We will be adding more photos to this post shortly. Brief impressions

- It is quite light and thin
- Multi-touch seems to work well
- Multi-touch acts differently in different apps. Testing in iPhoto, Finder, Safari. In Safari, three-finger swipe caused you to go Back and Forward in browser.
- Mac OS X 10.5.1
- Two DIMM slots While MacOS reports it as 2 slots, however Apple's site indicates that the RAM is soldered to the motherboard.
- 1 USB, 1 micro-DVI, an headphone. In drop-down panel... but does not appear to "collapse"
- Bright Display, Glossy
- Built-in battery is not user accessible
- A USB Ethernet dongle is available for $29
- The Solid State Drive option carries a $999 premium

Top 50 Atheism Quotes

George Carlin

1. Religion easily has the best bullshit story of all time. Think about it. Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money.

A Bit of Poetry to Begin 2008

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

If by Rudyard Kipling
